Oliva and Paul PLANTEUR bought the Château Berthenon in 1954. They already had one Château, but 2 children... This Château of 9 ha has been bought for their daughter Léa and offered to her as a wedding present.
The Château Berthenon, an 18th century Chartreuse, was mentioned, for the first time in 1868, by the Féret Editions (the Bordeaux wine Bible).
The Château Berthenon and the Château du Père Antoine were combined since the Léa and Henri wedding in 1957.
Since receiving Chateau Berthenon over 6o years ago, Léa and Henri have grown and renewed the vineyard to one of Bordeaux’s most consistent producers of high-quality wines.

CHATEAU BERTHENON CUVEE CHLOE
This is a very special wine…so special we named it after our daughter!
We use 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from vines over 30 years old up to 53 years old. We hand harvest the grapes, followed by cold maceration under controlled temperatures and malolactic fermentation in French new oak barrels, using the most expensive oak barrel all over the world and 3 more months in underground cement tanks.
After eighteen months in barrels, this blend of Merlot (80%) and Cabernet Sauvignon is beautiful in its dark and deep color; the announcement of a bouquet rich in ripe fruit, spices and toasted nuances, relayed by a full, fat, round, dense palate with mellow tannins.
The result is a wine with a deep and brilliant red color; intense aromas of red cooked black fruits with hints of roasted coffee, liquorice and spices. An elegant and complex full-bodied wine. Just velvet !
The bottle includes tin label attached by hand in a wooden box of 6 bottles.
We suggest pairing this wine with venison stew, welsh rabbit, lamb leg in sauce...

91 Points – James Suckling
‘Minty aromas suggest new wood and plenty of spice. The wood aging has given the wine a strongly toasty character that dominates the fruit. Allow time for the black-currant flavors to come through and balance the burnt toastiness. Drink from 2022 when it will be a balanced wine.’
